GUN BARREL CITY‑The Gun Barrel City Council met for their monthly meeting Aug. 25. The council approved two properties that building officials asked to be determined as unsafe structures and demolished.
Gun Barrel City building official Shannon Wiggins spoke about the property at 306 Channel Drive. Wiggins said, “Enforcement has worked with this property since 2017 and after discussions with the property owner, he asked [Gun Barrel City] to demo the property and ready it for sale. Once he sells [the property]he will settle up the liens [with the city].” 
Wiggins spoke about the property at 305 Ben Lacy, saying, “Code enforcement has worked this address since 2019, and the property owner has asked that we demo the structure, and wants it cleaned up. The owner will make arrangements to satisfy the legal amount of $7,000.”
In other business, the council:
• Approved a second amendment for professional services with The Retail Coach for $25,000. The Retail Coach is responsible for bringing in HTEAO and Seven Brews Coffee. 
• Tabled for one month, in good faith, the small claims petition against Slap N Good BBQ regarding payment of the three-year delinquent Economic Development Corporation loan balance of $20,622.07. The 10-year loan requires monthly payments of $258.24; as of Aug. 1, 2026, 50 of 71 payments had been made.
• Heard Mayor Crull offered condolences in honor of Rita Evans.
