CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The Cedar Creek Lake Parrot Head Club held a re-dedication of “Oehlers Landing,” the handicap-accessible fishing pier at Tom Finley Park April 8.
The fishing pier was originally dedicated in 2013 to honor disabled and Military Veterans and Active-Duty Military service members. It was named “Oehler’s Landing” in memory of Eddie Oehlers who was a longtime member of the Parrot Head Club.
“He was a man of integrity who spent his life helping to improve his community. He was a Navy Veteran and dedicated to helping other Veterans, especially those who were disabled, as well as others in his community,” as stated on the plaque.
The pier had sustained some damage due to vandalism, so the Parrot Head Club took on the task of replacing signs, poles and restriping the parking lot. The re-dedication was well attended with Mabank High School Drumline performing and Mabank High School Students performing the National Anthem. State Representative Keith Bell presented a proclamation and state flag to honor the event.
