Kemp ISD teacher arrested for child grooming
KEMP–A Kemp ISD teacher was arrested for child grooming Sept. 9 by Kemp ISD Police.
According to a statement from Kemp ISD Superintendent Dr. James Young Sept. 5, KISD Police and Administration were made aware of a concern regarding the actions of a Kemp High School employee. The district and administration immediately began reviewing and investigating an allegation of the employee engaging in inappropriate conduct.
The employee did not return to any Kemp ISD campus after the initial report was made according to Kemp ISD.
Anthony Trahan was taken into custody by Kemp ISD Police and taken to Kaufman County Jail Sept. 9. The Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office charged Trahan with child grooming. No bond has been set as of press time.
Child grooming is a third-degree felony under Texas state law. If convicted, offenders can face up a minimum of two years and a maximum of 10 years in prison, plus a maximum fine of $10,000. Also, under Audrii’s Law, which went into effect Sept. 1, a person convicted of child grooming is required to register as a sex offender.
Kemp ISD issued a notice of termination to Trahan and the investigation is ongoing with Kemp ISD Police and other agencies, the district said.
“The District Administration takes any school employee allegation seriously and is committed to a thorough, fair and cooperative review of all information with appropriate authorities,” Kemp ISD Superintendent Dr. James Young said in a statement. “Kemp ISD Administration understands that employee matters can raiser concerns, especially within our community. We want to assure parents, students and staff that we are taking all appropriate measures to address this matter.”
