KERENS–Kerens ISD trustees voted April 25 to make payments to a financial advisor and law firm for their services to help navigate a tax value limitation agreement pertaining to the Goodalta Solar Project, which is planned to be built in the district.
Sara Leon & Associates (a law firm now known as Leon Alcala) received $37,500, as did Jigsaw School Finance Solutions. The $75,000 total of the two payments had been reconciled with a budget amendment approved earlier in the meeting.
Another budget amendment approved recognizing $80,000 in Medicaid reimbursements tied to the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) program, which was in turn applied to various items, such as an ag building electric panel replacement and the purchase of band uniforms and supplies.
In other business, the board:
• Approved adding Jill Patton as an authorized signer for the Lone Star Investment Pool.
• Approved appointing District Librarian Janice Quinn to monitor book selections, as directed by the Texas Education Agency.
• Approved the acquisition of Anderson, Marx & Bohl as the district’s auditor for the 2021-22 school year.
• Approved certifying that instructional materials for the 2022-23 school year comply with state standards.
