Payne Springs Fire Rescue battles a fire that a man and woman set inside an RV during a standoff with law enforcement.

HENDERSON COUNTY–An attempted traffic stop by Eustace Police where a suspect bailed out of his car and fled on foot led to a standoff situation July 25.
The suspect fled on foot and barricaded himself in an RV that did not belong to him. He showed the officers that he had a gun as they approached and called out to the officers that he had a hostage inside the RV with him. Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said they confirmed that there was a woman inside the home but she was not a hostage as she had been in the vehicle with the suspect when the traffic stop by Eustace Police occurred.
The Henderson County Tactical Unit negotiated with the suspect for hours, where toward the end of the negotiations the man and woman set fire to the RV, then climbed on the roof. Several foam rounds were fired at the man, which hit him three times. Hillhouse says he still did not surrender.
When the man attempted to re-enter the burning RV, tactical team members were able to get onto the roof of the RV and use a taser device to stop him according to Hillhouse. The man and woman were taken away from the burning RV where they were arrested.
The man was taken to a local emergency room for medical clearance before he was taken to jail and the woman was cleared by EMS at the scene and arrested on outstanding warrants. The Henderson County Fire Marshal will also be investigating the incident as arson.
Responding agencies were the Henderson County Fire Marshal, Eustace Police Department, Log Cabin Police Department, Payne Springs Police Department, Payne Springs Fire Rescue and Texas DPS.
