Kay enjoyed all activities that involved gaining new knowledge and sharpening her memory.
She loved spending time with family and friends and serving as Treasurer for Moorehead - Melton Cemetery. She was a trustworthy steward of cemetery funds and oversaw the management and upkeep of the cemetery while providing support to families in their time of need.
Kay put herself through college while raising a family which was very much a challenge that she loved. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree and then taught Math in Mabank Public Schools for many years until she retired.
Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband Lonnie Byers and daughters Karen Lynn Rogers and Lori Houghton.
She is survived by her sister, two children, two step-children and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held Jan. 15, 2025 at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank followed by internment at Moorehead - Melton Cemetery in Eustace.
In lieu of flowers, Kay’s wish was that you would donate to Moorehead - Melton Cemetery or a reputable breast cancer organization.
