Kemp man arrested, charged with animal cruelty

GUN BARREL CITY–The Gun Barrel City Police Department responded to the Gun Barrel City Park involving a dog that was dumped and abandoned at Burger King, located at 151 W Main Street, Gun Barrel City Feb. 16 at approximately 2:22 p.m.
Officers secured the dog at the Gun Barrel City Animal Control kennels. Animal Control and officers investigated the offense and located several witnesses and security camera footage of this criminal offense.
According to a press release, a Gun Barrel City Police Department Facebook post requested the public's help and provided an outpouring of additional leads. The investigation ultimately identified Jimmy Stanley Slovak of Kemp as the suspect in the case.
An arrest warrant was issued for Jimmy Slovak for charges of Animal Cruelty, Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals TPC 42.092 a Misdemeanor A. According to Henderson County judicial records, Slovak was arrested Feb. 26 and posted $5,000 bond the same day. 
The Gun Barrel City Police Department said in a release that they would like to thank the citizens that came forward and provided critical information that helped in this investigation. 
The police press release added “We can all stop animal cruelty together. They can't speak but we can speak for them. The Gun Barrel City Police Department will investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
