Betty Steddum
Betty Steddum, a beacon of love and devotion, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 27, 2025, at the age of 99. Born Dec. 2, 1925, in Plainview, Betty lived a life filled with faith, family and unwavering kindness.
She married Joe Steddum Oct. 27, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif. and together they shared 50 beautiful years of marriage until Joe’s passing in 1994.
As a pastor’s wife, Betty was instrumental in her husband’s ministry, serving faithfully through the Ladies Auxiliary, teaching Sunday School classes and providing steadfast support to her family and community.
Betty and Joe made their home in Redlands, Calif., from 1962 to 1965 and again from 1972 to 1988, before returning to Texas.
She became a cherished member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabank, where her warmth and compassion touched countless lives.
Even into her 80s, Betty worked in home healthcare, caring for others with the same grace and love she extended to her own family. Her strength and dedication were an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children Gary Steddum, Karen Billings, Danny Steddum and David Steddum along with their families — including 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly.
Betty’s life was a testament to faith, resilience and the power of community. She never missed an opportunity to offer a kind word or lend a helping hand. Her memory will be celebrated in every Sunday hymn, every shared meal and every act of kindness inspired by her example.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025 at First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabank, located at 306 W Walnut St, Mabank, TX 75147, and officiated by Pastor TL Taylor and Larry Fondren.
All who knew and loved her are welcome to join in honoring a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished.
