Marilyn (Moorman) Tate
Funeral services for Marilyn (Moorman) Tate, 77, of Jacksonville were held June 7, 2025 at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Interment followed at the Flint Cemetery.
Marilyn passed away June 2, 2025 at her residence in Jacksonville.
She was born July 3, 1947 in Kaufman to Charles Edward and Marie (McKinney) Moorman.
She was a graduate of Kemp High School class of 1965. Following graduation she attended Henderson County Junior College and East Texas State University, where she was a member of Alpha Chi and the Texas Student Education Association.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She taught elementary school for the Terrell Independent School District for two years.
While working on her post-graduate degree at East Texas State University, she met Cecil Tate. Cecil and Marilyn were wed Jan. 29, 1972 in Kemp.
She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church - Gresham where she was a member of the choir. After moving to Jacksonville, she joined Cove Springs Community Church in Jacksonville.
She was an avid genealogist, life-long student who loved seeking knowledge and collected numerous books, enjoyed baking cookies for her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with her sister.
She genuinely loved her family, including her extended family. She had the gift of gab and the stamina to use it generously without a filter.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Andrew Tate.
She is survived by her husband Cecil of Jacksonville, sons Keith of Whitehouse and Troy Tate and wife Sarah of Flint, daughter Valerie Roberts and husband Michael of Tyler, step-daughter Tammy Edwards and husband Kevin of Edmond, Okla., sister Janis Moorman of Tyler, grandchildren Eric, Brian, Timothy, Grace, Lily, Rose, Violet, Glory and Theodore Tate and Olivia, Caroline and Adalynn Roberts, step-grandson Private First Class, Barron Ramsey, US Army, “almost grandsons” Jaiden Lansdale and Aaron Bewley, as well as numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers were Michael Roberts, Eric Tate, Brian Tate, Timothy Tate, Jaiden Lansdale and Aaron Bewley. Honorary Pallbearer was PFC, Barron Ramsey.
