Multiple people indicted in deadly truck crash
KAUFMAN COUNTY–A truck driver at the wheel that killed five people on I-20 near Terrell was indicted on multiple charges by a Kaufman County grand jury this past week.
A company official for the trucking company, Hope Trans, was also indicted for felony forgery.
The driver, 27-year-old Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, was indicted on five counts of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a weapon.
Kaufman County prosecutors are still collecting evidence in the case and hearings for Gonzalez-Companioni are still expected. Law enforcement is also waiting for the company official to turn himself in.
The company official has not been named at this time and hasn’t been arrested as of press time.
The indictments also come at an emotional time as the McKellar laid to rest four members of their family that were killed in the crash. The only survivor from the crash, 20-year-old Evan McKellar, was released from Parkland Hospital on Friday, Aug. 1. Dallas resident Nicole Gregory was the fifth person killed in the crash.
Gonzalez-Companioni’s defense attorney filed for a bail hearing. He will appear in court on Monday, Aug. 11 for a bond reduction hearing.
