EUSTACE—The Malakoff Tigers traveled just a few miles north of their campus Oct. 16 and won their second-straight District 7-3A game with a 56-0 whipping of the Eustace Bulldogs, a game the Tigers led 35-0 at halftime. The win moved Malakoff to 4-3 for the season (2-1 in District) while Eustace remains winless in eight games.
To start, Malakoff’s Jerrion Hall partially blocked a Eustace punt, with the ball spotted on the Bulldog 42-yard line. Tiger quarterback Canyon Marsh connected with Davion Johnson to move the ball to Eustace’s 13, then later, Hall trotted in from the Eustace 5-yard line for a touchdown with 7:15 left in the first quarter.
Leading 7-0, Malakoff next started another scoring drive, fueled by Hall taking a short pass near midfield and running all the way to Eustace’s 7. Johnson then covered the remaining ground for a touchdown at the 3:53 mark of the first quarter.
Another potential scoring drive for Malakoff came to Eustace’s 25-yard line at the end of the first quarter. After that, a Eustace quarterback sack by Trenton Jones moved Malakoff back to Eustace’s 38. Later, on a fourth-and-13 from the Bulldog 33, a Marsh pass to Weston Jedlicka was completed, but short of the first-down marker, turning over the ball on the Eustace 16 with 9:49 left in the second quarter.
Eustace’s offense punted next, which Hall brought 85 yards for a Malakoff touchdown, extending the Tiger lead to 21-0 with 8 minutes left in the second quarter. The next Malakoff score came soon thereafter, when Johnson took a reverse and ran 28 yards for a touchdown with 3:53 remaining in the second quarter. The Tigers tacked on another touchdown with 21 seconds remaining until halftime, when Nasir Ross caught a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Leading 35-0 entering the second half, Hall scored another touchdown (this time a 35-yard touchdown) to extend the Malakoff lead to 42-0 with 10:50 left in the third quarter. Then, Kehler Whitlow took a jet sweep pitch, reversed ground and ran 41 yards for a Tiger touchdown with 5:07 left in the third quarter. The last Malakoff touchdown, with backup quarterback Will Self at the helm, was a 23-yard touchdown run from Kamori Jones on a fourth-and-5 with 9:49 left in the game.
