Officer involved in Malakoff shooting

HENDERSON COUNTY‑The following press release was issued by the office of Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.
At approximately 12:18 p.m. on Sunday, July 5,2026 the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suicidal male at the Malakoff Cemetery on County Road 1400. Upon arrival, the responding Deputy observed the individual armed with a pistol. The Deputy issued multiple commands for the subject to drop the weapon, however, the individual refused to comply.
The subject then raised the pistol toward the Deputy. Fearing for his safety, the Deputy discharged his firearm, striking the individual in the abdomen. The Deputy immediately notified dispatch that shots had been fired and that the subject had been hit.
Life saving measures were initiated at the scene and continued by EMS upon their arrival.
The individual was transported to UT Health Tyler, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Henderson County Fire Marshal’s Office, Malakoff Police Department, UT Health EMS, Brownsboro Fire Department, and Long Cove Fire Department.
