Eaglettes sweep Lady Panthers

MABANK–The Canton Eaglettes and Mabank Lady Panthers squared off on the court Sept. 11 for an afternoon District 15-4A matchup, as Canton played their second District match while Mabank began their District slate.
In the first set, after Canton took an 11-7 lead, Mabank scored five of the next six points and tied the initial set at 12-12. The Eaglettes answered by scoring four-straight points to take a 16-12 lead. The Lady Panthers responded and went on a 7-1 run to take the 19-17 lead. Canton then scored six of the next seven points and led 23-20. The Lady Panthers’ ensuing 5-1 stretch gave them a set point at 25-24, but the Eaglettes scored the next three points to win the first set, 27-25.
Mabank opened the second set with a 3-1 lead before Canton used an 8-2 run to take a 9-5 advantage. When the Lady Panthers trailed 10-9, the Eaglettes scored five-straight points and to extend the Canton lead to 15-9. At 18-14 in favor of Canton, the Eaglettes extended their lead to 21-14 before Mabank cut the score to 21-16. The Eaglettes reached set point at 24-16, but the Lady Panthers scored two-straight points to trail 24-18. Canton then wrapped up the second set, 25-18.
The Eaglettes opened set three with an 8-0 lead before the Lady Panthers cut into Canton’s margin to trail 8-2. Canton scored six points in a row and extended their lead to 14-2. Mabank used a 4-1 stretch and trailed 15-6. Later, with the Eaglettes leading 19-6, the Lady Panthers cut Canton’s lead to 19-9. For the rest of the third set, Canton outscored Mabank, 6-3, and clinched the match sweep with the 25-12 third-set victory.
Both teams resumed District action Sept. 15 as Canton hosted Van while Mabank traveled to Lindale.
