Body

Larry Don Estes, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Trinidad Nov. 9, 2022.
He was born Oct. 23, 1942, to George “Pete” and Dorothy Merle Estes in Ft. Worth.
Larry attended Trinidad ISD for 12 years and was extremely proud to be a 1961 graduate of Trinidad High School.
When Larry was 16 years old and Mary Frances “Fran” Warren was 13 years old, he walked up to her in the hallway at school and surprised her with a kiss. That kiss was the beginning of their enviable, long-lasting love story.
They married Sept. 21, 1963 and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Sept. 21, 2022.
Larry enjoyed treating Fran like a queen. He worked tirelessly to provide her heart’s desires, opened car doors, buckled seat belts, cared for her during illnesses and regularly rocked her in the evenings in his recliner while they watched ballgames on TV together. Over the past few years as his health failed, the only thing or person that could settle him was his beloved Fran. Together, they created a life they loved.
Following graduation Larry worked for Gifford Hill and in 1966 went to work for Texas Power and Light. He “retired” in 1992 but if you knew him at all, you know he never stopped working.
Larry served his community in many ways and roles over the years. He served on the Trinidad ISD Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1983. He served on the Trinidad Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the Jaycees and served on the Trinidad Cemetery Board for many years, as well as serving as its caretaker.
Larry also served as a volunteer for Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice. He was elected as Mayor of Trinidad in 2009 and spent countless hours serving in that role until 2021 when his health no longer allowed him to do so.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in-law “Pug” and Lucille Warren, daughter Tamra Estes and his beloved first grandson Dylan Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, daughter and son-in-law Tanya and Vincent Norris of Star Harbor, son Eric Estes of Trinidad and daughter and son-in-law Kaylee and Darren Sims of Bradford, 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Thelma Estes of McKinney and many other family members and friends he considered family.
Funeral services were held Nov. 14, 2022 at the Trinidad ISD Gymnasium, followed by interment at Trinidad Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinidad Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 190, Trinidad, TX 75163 or Trinidad Ex-Students Association, P.O. Box 583, Trinidad, TX 75163. Arrangements by Paschal Funeral Home.
