Henderson County Peace Officers Association holds Peace Officer Memorial Day

The Henderson County Peace Officers Association (HCPOA) held its annual Peace Officer Memorial Day event May 18 to honor local officers killed in the line of duty, The event included a reading of the officers’ names, a 21-gun salute and playing of “Taps.” Officers killed in the line of duty include Charlie Fields, Sr., KC Winn, Larry Hobson, Bennie Everett, Tony P. Ogburn, Paul S. Habelt, Rufus H. Day, John E. Rhodes, James W. Hopson, John C. Reeves, Elvis O. Brown, and Sherry K. Langford. Pictured is the Color Guard at the beginning of the ceremony.

HCPOA President Sgt. Johnny Massey (from left), Henderson County District Attorney Jenny Palmer and Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse speak on the courthouse lawn before the Peace Officer Memorial begins. Massey led the event and Palmer was the guest speaker, calling on the public to keep officers safe.
