Body

Darlene was born in Crowell to Everett “Smokey” and Maxine Callaway and spent her formative years in Cisco.
After several moves, she finally settled in Gun Barrel City with her late husband Jerry Gilbert.
Darlene spent most of her life as a hairdresser beautifying the men and women around her. She had the ability to brighten anyone’s day by simply flashing her brilliant smile. Her stories were often interrupted by her own infectious laughter and absolutely no one made a better giblet gravy at Thanksgiving. She was a steadfast woman of faith and exemplified that faith through her kindness and compassion.
Darlene loved her God and we rejoice in knowing she was swept up in the arms of Jesus upon her arrival into Heaven.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Max Everett Callaway and Jerry Lee Callaway and daughter Deanne Hazlett.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother and sister-in-law Rodney and Barbara Callaway, son and daughter-in-law Kirk and Lana Parks, daughters Tracy Gilbert and Christy Gilbert, grandchildren Josh Turner, Tori Jones and husband Jordan, Taylor Parks, Christie Dalton, Zach Chitwood, many cherished great-grandchildren, extended family, her beloved sister-friend Pat Gremminger and her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 at CR Legacy Event Center located at 2205 W. Main St., Gun Barrel City, TX 75156.
