Donald Eugene Recknagel, fondly known as “Pops,” was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Fairmont, W.Va. He peacefully departed this life Dec. 23, 2023, in Tyler
A proud veteran of the Air Force and member of the VFW in Payne Springs, Donald was a dedicated and loving husband to Vivian Jean Recknagel. Together, they created a lifetime of cherished memories.
Donald found immense joy in the simplicity of life, especially in spending time outdoors, where he delighted in feeding the animals, particularly the squirrels.
Professionally, Donald worked in maintenance, specializing in mobile homes. His commitment to his work was a reflection of his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family.
Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife. Though they are now reunited, his memory lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his sons Donald Eugene Recknagel-Tally and wife Cindy and Randy Glen Recknagel-Tally and wife Kari. His legacy continues through his beloved grandson Robert E. Tally and sister Susan Marshall.
In addition to his immediate family, Donald leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends who were touched by his warmth, kindness and sense of humor.
A celebration of Donald’s life was held Jan. 2, 2024 at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home. Donald’s final resting place will be Payne Springs Cemetery.
May Pops rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and memories he created during his remarkable journey on this earth.
