John C. Stewart
John C. Stewart, Lt Col US AR Ret, was born in Huntsville, Ark., Nov. 28, 1932. He went to be with the Lord Aug. 22, 2022.
He attended the University of Arkansas and spent his entire career in the insurance field with Employers Casualty, Safeco, American United Life and Cologne Life Re.
John was the commander of the 519th Maintenance Bn in Dallas for six years and was a graduate of the US Army War College class of 1977.
Upon retirement, he and his wife Mary, moved to Cedar Creek Lake, where he was active at the First United Methodist Church in Mabank.
He spent most of his retirement working as a substitute teacher at Mabank High School. John traveled to all seven continents and 60 countries.
John is survived by his wife of 70 years Mary C. Stewart, children Ann (Phil) Kozlow, David (Katrine) Stewart and John (Suzanne) Stewart, grandchildren Christine Wells, Virginia Jennings, James Stewart, Charles Stewart, Margaret Stewart, Elizabeth Marcum, Claire Tefteller, Leigh Karro, Andrew Stewart, Jay Daniel Stewart and Julianne Stewart, ten great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Mabank with visitation between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dan Gurley will officiate for the Stewart family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FUMC Loves Outreach, 501 South 3rd Street, Mabank, Texas 75147.
Interment in the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery with military honors will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022.
