EUSTACE–The Eustace Bulldogs baseball team beat the Mineola Yellowjackets on the road in District 15-3A play April 25 by 14-2 to end their 2025 regular season, after playing that same team in Eustace three days before.
April 22, the Bulldogs had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning in that previous game, but Mineola brought in a reliever to put out the fire and get the final two outs to secure a 6-2 Yellowjacket win.
Mineola took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then Grady McLemee of Eustace singled with two outs in the bottom of the first, but Eustace couldn’t manage more. Jeremy Rummel led off Eustace’s bottom of the second with a single but got caught in a rundown between first and second base. Mineola got a hard-hit fly ball to center field to get out of the second.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the third, a Mineola infield single scored one run then the Yellowjackets laid down a bunt that scored two more runs, taking a 4-0 lead over Eustace. Two consecutive infield fly balls bagged by Eustace third baseman McLemee and Bulldog shortstop Rhett Dyer ended Mineola’s half of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Eustace’s Talyn Smith reached first base then Cotey McLemee’s almost inadvertent bunt turned into a fielder’s choice, moving Smith to second. Andric Taylor reached first base for Eustace, allowing the Bulldogs to have runners at first and third with one out. Carter GoDair hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith, whittling Mineola’s lead to 4-1.
After McLemee’s range at third combined with Cooper Gaddis’ jump to get the force at first base got the third out of Mineola’s top half of the fourth, Gaddis fought off Mineola’s pitcher with foul balls before dipping low to drill a single past second with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. After that, Clayton Burelsmith banged a Bulldog base hit to set up Eustace runners at first and second with two outs. Smith then walked to load the bases but Mineola got out of that threat.
Following Eustace turning a double play to end the top of the fifth, Taylor walked but was doubled off on a fly ball to the outfield to end that inning. Mineola then scored one run in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1.
That set up the bottom of the seventh for Eustace, when Taylor singled home Smith with one out to cut Mineola’s lead to 5-2. A Mineola error on a GoDair grounder loaded the bases, but Mineola’s new pitcher coaxed the last two outs for their 5-2 victory.
