MABANK—Kemp and Mabank continue their long standing football rivalry Sept. 5 as the Panthers hosted the Yellowjackets for a non-district game at Panther Stadium.
It only took two plays from scrimmage for Mabank to open the scoring with a big rush and a two-yard touchdown run by Jaedyn Thompson for the 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.
Ray Brager’s ensuing onside kick was recovered at Kemp’s 42-yard line. Facing an eventual 4th-and-long, Jaxon Copeland ran and picked up the first down, extending the Panther drive. Thompson would punch in his second score of the night with a 14-yard TD run with 8:58 in the first quarter to make it 13-0.
At Mabank’s 24, a field goal attempt from Jose Lujan was no good.
On the next Mabank drive, the Panthers reached Kemp’s six-yard line and Thompson’s rushing touchdown, his third score, along with Copeland’s two-point conversion made it 21-0 with 2:54 in the first quarter.
With 9:14 until halftime, Wayne Langford’s blocked punt recovery at the Yellowjacket 15 would set up a 15-yard touchdown reception from Bryson Morris and it was 27-0 after a missed extra point.
Gavin Foote picked up an interception off of Nathan Dunn around midfield at the 8:44 mark. From Kemp’s 34 after a dead-ball penalty against the Yellowjackets, Morris caught a 34-yard touchdown for the 33-0 lead following an unsuccessful two-point attempt.
At 6:54, a Kemp punt attempt went back into their end zone for a safety and it was 35-0.
Kannon Hyde’s 18-yard TD reception made it 43-0 after a two-point conversion. The Panthers recovered a fumble on the kickoff at 3:52 and with 1:54 until the break, Thompson brought it to the end zone for his fourth touchdown as Mabank took the 50-0 lead into halftime. Mabank would go on to defeat Kemp by the final score of 57-0.
Both teams get back to work on Sept. 12 as Kemp (0-2) travels to play at Dallas Samuell while Mabank (1-1) stays home to host Wills Point.
