MALAKOFF–The Malakoff Tigers took a 47-0 halftime lead Oct. 23 against the Emory Rains Wildcats, then cruised in the second half to a 61-0 win during a game moved a day earlier because of impending weather concerns.
Early in the game, Emory Rains fumbled on their own 31-yard line, which the Tigers recovered. The first play after that, Malakoff running back Jerrion Hall dashed 31 yards for a touchdown, giving Malakoff a 7-0 lead with 10:54 left in the first quarter. Later, Hall juked his way downfield for a 49-yard run to the Rains 10-yard line. The next play, Hall covered those last 10 yards, scoring a second touchdown and increasing Malakoff’s lead to 13-0 with 2:40 remaining in the opening quarter (Rains blocked the Malakoff extra-point attempt).
Rains then tried a fake punt on fourth-and-11, but the Tiger defense swarmed to stop the play with 29 seconds left in the first quarter. Eventually, Malakoff quarterback Canyon Marsh threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Nasir Ross to cap off that ensuing drive, extending Malakoff’s lead to 20-0 with 11:50 left in the second quarter.
After the Tigers recovered another Rains fumble at the Rains 25-yard line, the following drive culminated when Will Self of Malakoff took a reverse and pulled up to throw to Ross for a 27-yard Tiger touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful, leaving Malakoff in front 27-0 with 11:17 remaining in the second quarter.
Rains missed a field goal with 4:51 left before halftime. Soon after, Elexon Jones ran 79 yards for a Malakoff touchdown, giving the Tigers a 33-0 lead with 4:36 left until intermission. Hall scored another rushing touchdown, this time from 10 yards out, to hand the Tigers a 40-0 lead with 2:25 left in the first half. Hall then caught an 8-yard touchdown pass out of the backfield with 33 seconds left before halftime to give Malakoff their 47-0 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Davion Johnson scored a 15-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Tiger lead to 54-0. Then, with 7:49 left in the game, Will Self (who had come in at quarterback to relieve Marsh) took a keeper 4 yards for Malakoff’s final touchdown of the night, accounting for the 61-0 final.
