KERENS–Kerens City Council adopted an Oct. 11 resolution denying Oncor Electric Delivery Company’s application to increase rates. The resolution also seeks to reimburse the alliance of cities to which Kerens belongs for rate case expenses.
Kerens is a municipality in Oncor’s service area that has not ceded jurisdiction to the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and has exclusive original jurisdiction over the rates, operations and services of Oncor, pursuant to the Texas Public Utility Regulatory Act.

The Cross Roads bobcats varsity girls’ cross country team comes in first place and the boys’ team comes in second Oct. 12 in the District meet in LaPoynor. They both will be advancing to Regional meet Oct. 24. The junior high girls’ team places second overall and Lane Supak takes home first place for the JV boys’ team.
HENDERSON COUNTY–Commissioners’ Court of Henderson County decided not to implement a county burn ban Oct. 18 but urged the public to continue exercising caution.
County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg told the court that the Keetch-Byram Drought Index for Henderson County dropped 38 points because of recent rains. As of Oct. 17, the county’s drought index average was 578, which he said was “right at that threshold of putting on a burn ban. I still think we’re in great shape.”

MABANK–The Mabank Panthers suffered their second straight district loss to the Sulphur Springs Wildcats Oct. 14 at home.
Mabank failed to score in the second half of their contest Friday night as they dropped a 28-17 contest to Sulphur Springs.
The Wildcats opened the scoring before the Panthers answered with a rushing touchdown three minutes into the first quarter.
The Wildcats jumped back in front on a three-yard rushing touchdown as they took a 14-7 lead into the second quarter.
