Kerens orders May 6 municipal election

KERENS–Kerens City Council voted Feb. 7 to order a May 6 election to fill two council seats and the mayoral position.
Those council seats are held currently by Bryant Jennings and Darren Lane, both of whom have signed up for re-election, according to City Administrator Katherine Combs. Jeffrey Saunders has put his name in the hat for another term as Kerens mayor, Combs added.
The last day to sign up for the election was Feb. 17and if no other candidates sought office, the election would be cancelled, the city administrator told council.

MISD family gathers to pray

MABANK–Members of the Mabank ISD community gathered Monday evening to unite in prayer for high school student Everett Nix who was injured in an accidental shooting.
Students, teachers and members of the community were present in an outpouring of love and support for the family and friends of the student. According to social media, the family remains optimistic for a complete recovery and asks for continued prayers.

Sandra Jean Colby

Sandra Jean Colby, 78, passed away after a long period of health problems Feb. 13, 2023, in Dallas.   
Sandy, as she liked to be called, was born May 19, 1944 and grew up in Akron, Ohio.  She moved to Texas in 1975 and the Kemp area in the early 80s.  
Sandy worked in Sheet Metal Manufacturing in Terrell for many years and she loved her cat Casey Marie very much.  
She was most caring and tender hearted towards everyone she met. She was a beloved sister and aunt.  
Her parents and her life partner Annette Cannada preceded her in death.

Taylor W. Golden

Body

Taylor W. Golden passed away peacefully Feb. 9, 2023, he was 100 years old. Taylor was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Minturn, Ark. 
He spent most of his childhood in Black Oak, Ark. He graduated from Monette High School in Monette, Ark. and attended Arkansas State University.
Taylor served in the U.S. Army, Company M 153rd Infantry during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1950, he married Martha L. Gilmer of Jonesboro, Ark. They had sons David and Douglas.

David Glenn Black

Body

David Glenn Black was born June 24, 1931 and passed away peacefully Feb 12, 2023 at the age of 91. 
David was born in Sulpher Bluff to parents Ralph Jake Black and Stellean Black. He was one of 13 kids.  
David married Patsy Hawkins Feb. 3, 1953. David was an Army Veteran. He worked at Garden and Denver for 19 years before retiring. David loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family.
