Parents demand answers from day care

CEDAR CREEK LAKE—Two families in the Cedar Creek Lake Area have sought legal counsel to hold a day care owner accountable when their toddlers were found outside the facility at a nearby bank by a good Samaritan. 
The suit, which was filed in Henderson County May 1, by attorney Russell Button, alleges that the day care failed to follow state laws regarding proper supervision and maintenance of a safe environment which allowed the toddlers to leave the premises unnoticed.

EUSTACE—At approximately 8:18 p.m., Monday, May 27 Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received a call from Patricia Childs stating she had just shot her boyfriend, Troy Aldredge, and he was not breathing outside of Eustace according to a press release from Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
According to the release, deputies responded to the scene located in the 15000 block of Morning Star Circle along with UT Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Henderson County District Attorney’s Office, and Texas Rangers.

Fire ignites at First Baptist Church in Eustace

Fire Departments from Payne Springs, Gun Barrel City, Athens and Eustace work together to extinguish a fire that potentially started in the attic above the sanctuary at First Baptist Church in Eustace May 23. The fire was contained to the attic and roof of the Sanctuary. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Henderson County Fire Marshal’s office. No injuries were reported.

Kerens baseball: Regional Quarterfinal champs

The Kerens Bobcats baseball team wins the Regional Quarterfinal championship to advance to Round 4 of the Class 2A playoffs from Region III by beating Beckville May 15 in Tyler, sweeping the first two games of a best-of-three series (3-0 and 5-1, respectively). Kerens moves on to play Shelbyville in a Regional Semifinal series at Madisonville, with Game 1 set May 23 (in case of rain, May 24), and Games 2 and 3 (the latter, if necessary) scheduled May 25.

Cross Roads softball advances to 2A Regional Finals

The Cross Roads Lady Cats win the Regional Semifinal round in Rusk with a sweep of Shelbyville May 17 (10-4) and May 18 (9-5) to advance in the Class 2A playoffs. Cross Roads will face Beckville in the Region III Finals; that best-of-three series is scheduled May 22-24 at Lindale. Following the clinching game, Gracie Collins (from left) and Keelee Glover hold the three softballs they hit for home runs, one by Collins (a 2-run bash) and two by Glover.
