KAUFMAN COUNTY—Commissioners of Kaufman County met in regular meeting May 21 and heard a presentation from the Childrens Advocacy Center for Kaufman County (CACKC) board chairs. President Randy Squibb and Treasurer Crystal Humphreys spoke to commissioners about a budgeting shortfall within the CACKC and while they did not request any funds during the commissioners’ court meeting, asked commissioners to “consider CACKC in their budget going forward.” Humphreys informed commissioners that at any given time there are more than 35 children on the CACKC waitlist and to provide care for those children it would cost $650,000. CACKC relies on state grants and fundraising within Kaufman County to satisfy their budget needs, and stated they will continue to be good stewards of the money they receive for children advocacy services.
It was also noted that with Kaufman County’s 7.5% growth, that meant an additional 10% of center growth for CACKC. Humphreys said that it is unfortunate that more services are needed within the county due to the additional growth but CACKC willingly provides services to the families and children Kaufman County and wish to continue being a part of the county. Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley also addressed commissioners stating that, “CACKC adds great value to the county.” Squibb finalized the presentation to commissioners by stating that, “We are looking down the road to see what we need.” Commissioner Pct. 1 Mike Hunt stated that he appreciated CACKC coming in a year ahead to request financial assistance from the court.”  No action was taken on the presentation.
