Community mourns Kemp High School student

MABANK–A sophomore student at Kemp High School passed away March 5, according to a press release from Kemp ISD.
Kemp High School sophomore Maddison Dyer died in a car accident on the morning of March 5. 
Kemp ISD’s statement from Superintendent Dr. James Young began “We are saddened to learn of and announce the passing of Kemp High School sophomore student, Maddison Dyer.” “We extend our sincere condolences to her family on this unimaginable loss.”
“Maddison’s passing deeply impacts our connected Kemp community and her presence will be irreplaceable,” Dr. Young's statement continued. “We ask that you take a moment of pause to remember this bright young lady, her contributions to Kemp ISD, and the light that she was to all who knew her. As her loved ones navigate this unimaginable path of grief, we ask that you lift them in your thoughts and prayers.”
Kemp ISD stated that counselors would be available on March 5 and in the days and weeks ahead for support of the students and staff.
“The Kemp ISD Board of Trustees, staff and community join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to all of Maddison’s family and friends,” Dr. Young said.
The City of Mabank Police Department sent a press release on March 6 concerning the automobile collision. Police said that officers with the Mabank Police Department, along with Mabank Fire and Rescue, were dispatched to the intersection of State Highway 198 and Morris Road in reference to a two-vehicle accident.
According to the release, the preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a Volkswagen passenger car attempted to pull onto State Highway 198 when it was struck by the driver of a Dodge pickup truck traveling north on the highway. 
The driver of the Volkswagen passenger car was transported for medical treatment to the hospital in Gun Barrel City, where the driver unfortunately succumbed to injuries received in the crash. The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
The crash remains under investigation and may take several days to complete. 
The Mabank Police Department, along with the City of Mabank, extends its prayers and condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
The Cedar Creek Lake area is embracing the Dyer family during this difficult time. The Burger Barn on State Highway 198 in Mabank hosted a car show and pledged 100% of all profits to the Dyer family. Also in Mabank the Velvet Grind donated 100% of all tips for Saturday and Sunday. KO Permanent Jewelry donated 50% of all sales, Sowing Seeds Bakery donated 100% of all sales. Hotties Salon and Tan in Kemp sold dirty sodas with all proceeds going to the family. 903 Nutrition donated one dollar from their “Something Tart” menu as well as collecting donations and Slice Pizza in Seven Points collected donations.
Kemp High School held a candlelight vigil March 8 at the Kemp High School Stadium. A visitation for the family was held in the Kemp High School Auditorium March 11 with a memorial service following. Kemp had an early release day for students and families to attend the service.
