MABANK–Mabank City Council approved entering into proposed engineering agreements with Schaumburg & Polk for design related to the water and wastewater improvements funded by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). Financial assistance in the amount of $28,790,000 was approved in March 2022 which will fund the planning, design and construction. The TWDB is a state agency which administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control and agricultural water conservation projects.
The first agreement in an amount not to exceed $1,026,000 includes engineering design of water treatment plant upgrades, raw water pump station upgrades, raw water transmission line and treated water high service transmission line. Project Manager Jeremy White told the council the project would “double the capacity of water that could be treated and sent to the public.” The second agreement not to exceed $382,000 includes engineering design, bid and construction phase services for the new elevated storage tank for the city’s main pressure plane. The proposed 750,000 gallon tank which will be located on the north side of U.S. Highway 175 across from the high school is expected to serve projected demands over the next 20 years, City Administrator Bryant Morriss told the council.
The council also heard from Henderson County Help Center Director Leslie Saunders regarding the proclamation to make April Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in the city. Saunders shared some alarming statistics with the council members including that Henderson County had 1,137 confirmed victims in 2022 and four deaths related to child abuse and neglect. The proclamation passed unanimously with members thanking Saunders for all she does for the children.
Mabank Mayor Jeff Norman noted that this was his last council meeting as mayor and expressed his thanks to council members and city officials for their dedication and continued hard work to make the city better.
