KAUFMAN COUNTY–Between Feb. 29 through March 3, a collaborative proactive policing effort involving the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, Kaufman County Street Crimes Unit, Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Pct. 2 deputies and the Kaufman County DA’s Office yielded significant results. During this three-day operation, law enforcement successfully recovered over $90,000 worth of stolen property (including a trailer filled with stolen mattresses), vehicles and travel trailers.
In addition to the property recovered, the operation led to the confiscation of 430 grams of illicit drugs and the seizure of four handguns. Notably, one handgun was equipped with a Glock switch.
A Glock switch or Glock auto-sear (sometimes called a button or a giggle switch) is a small device that can be attached to the rear of the slide of a Glock handgun, converting the semi-automatic pistol into a machine pistol capable of fully automatic fire. As a type of auto sear, it functions by applying force to the trigger bar to prevent it from limiting fire to one round of ammunition per trigger pull. This device by itself, regardless of whether it is installed on a slide or not, is considered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to be a machine gun, making possession of the device illegal in the United States under most circumstances.
The joint efforts of the participating agencies resulted in the apprehension of ten adult males, two adult females and one juvenile. The arrests were made on a variety of charges, reflecting the diverse criminal activities uncovered during the operation.
Charges include possession of marijuana, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful carrying a weapon, manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance and the clearing of 39 outstanding warrants.
The collaborative efforts and successful results achieved during this three-day period serve as a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the involved agencies in safeguarding the well-being of Kaufman County residents.
“The outcome of this operation underscores the commitment of local law enforcement to maintain public safety, uphold the rule of law, and actively address criminal elements within our community,” said Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers.
“I commend our law enforcement community for working together to eradicate crime. These types of proactive measures will keep our county safer,” stated Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh N. Wiley.
