CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) petitioned Congress in 1955 to adopt a resolution to commemorate the Constitution each year on Sept. 17–23. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the resolution into Public Law #915 Aug. 2, 1956. Each year on Sept. 17, the U.S. President signs a Constitution Day proclamation.
The DAR was founded Oct. 11, 1890 and incorporated in 1896 by an Act of Congress. In pursuit of the mission of DAR to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism, the Sarah Maples Chapter obtains mayoral proclamations regarding Constitution Week, arranges displays in local libraries and presents Constitution information to area school children.
