General election set for May 3

CEDAR CREEK LAKE—The May 3 general election to elect school board trustees, city council members, and bonds is quickly approaching. The cities of Seven Points, Log Cabin, Mabank, Eustace and Gun Barrel City are all having elections for council members while the City of Kemp will be holding an election for the reauthorization of sales tax for street maintenance.
The City of Seven Points will hold an election for three council members with six candidates, one of which is incumbent Mary Wennerstrom. The other candidates are Kenneth Reynolds, Charles Longacre, Gerald Taylor, Cody Schmoldt and Marlin Reed.
The City of Log Cabin will hold an election for mayor of which the two candidates are Paul Eckeberger and Teresa R. Neal. They will also elect two council members from the following candidates, incumbent Bill Sims, Roy Linder, Brian LaFlower, Gary Hass, JD Helton, and Myra Morgan. Also on the ballot in Log Cabin is the reauthorization of sales tax for street maintenance.
The City of Mabank will hold an election to elect two council members from the following candidates, incumbents Darren Day and Joey Rich and candidate Ty Thompson. In Eustace an election will be held to elect two council members from three candidates, Daniel Smith, Lisa Roberts, and Tim Meyer.
In Gun Barrel City two council member seats are contested. For Place 1 the candidates are Paul McCullough and incumbent April Burns, for place 5 the candidates are incumbent Kennith Foster and Robert Edwards.
Mabank Independent School District will also hold an election to elect three trustee positions, of which place 1 and place 3 are uncontested. The place 2 candidates are Tiffany Thompson and incumbent Brandon Parker. Eustace Independent School District will also hold an election for four trustee positions of which place 1 and 2 are uncontested. The place 5 candidates are Jacob Horton and Shane Carter and the place 6 candidates are Wade Morton and Blake Ward.
Kemp Independent School District will hold bond election for the issuance of $90 million for the construction, renovation, improvement, acquisition, expansion and equipment of school buildings in the district including a new junior high school and existing high school.
Emergency Services Districts one and two will also hold an election to increase the maximum rate of the ad valorem tax imposed by the district from three cents per $100 valuation to a rate of ten cents per $100 valuation in districts one and two. Emergency Services district four will hold an election to increase the maximum rate of the ad valorem tax imposed by the district from three cents per $100 valuation to a rate of seven and one-half cents per $100 valuation.
The residents of Kaufman County will also decide the fate of the construction of a 32-bed juvenile detention facility which will be decided with a bond election. The estimated cost of the facility is $40 million.
Early voting locations in Kaufman County will be held at the following locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday April 22 through Saturday April 26 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday April 27, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29.

• Kemp Sub Courthouse located at 103 N. Main Street
Early Voting locations in Henderson County will be held at the following locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday April 22 through Saturday April 26 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday April 27 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29.

• Mabank City Hall located at 129 East Market Street, in Mabank
The following early voting locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday April 22 through Friday April 25 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday April 28 and Tuesday April 29:
• Gun Barrel City Hall located at 1716 West Main Street, in Gun Barrel City
• Seven Points City Hall located at 715 S. Seven Points Blvd in Seven Points
• First Methodist Church Heritage Hall located at 501 North Second Street, in Chandler.
The last day to register to vote is April 3.
