Golden Chick owner Terry Bell (front, right) comes to the rescue of a group at Aley Methodist Church when an elderly member passed away and the congregation wanted to hold a memorial service for him. Bell delivered food at no charge as part of service to the community.

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–When an elderly member of Aley United Methodist Church, John Steele, passed away the church wanted to have a celebration of life to honor him. With no family in the area and finances being tight, the church reached out.
Church member, Lisa Dodwell said, “We decided to serve chicken and sides at the lunch. I called around to several local businesses and explained our budget was tight but the cost they all quoted was well into the $150 range just for the chicken, biscuits and tea. That didn’t include sides.” Frustrated that the church was not going to be able to have the memorial lunch for a dear friend, Dodwell made one last attempt and she hit gold, Golden Chick gold that is.
General Manager/Owner, Fred Aldridge listened to Dodwell and how they were trying to put together this celebration of life for an elderly church member.  Aldridge said that Golden Chick would take care of everything. he continued with, “We are a part of this community too and are here to help our community.”  Golden Chick provided food and drinks for this small congregation.
When the day arrived for the memorial service, Golden Chick owner Terry Bell delivered all that was needed for the luncheon but did not stop with that.  Bell said that if Steele’s widow needed anything from mowing her yard, meals, groceries to be picked up or just someone to talk to he would be available. He then gave her his personal cell phone number.
Aley United Methodist Church and Dodwell are thankful to the owners of Golden Chick, Bell, Aldridge and Brianna Aldridge for displaying the “Golden Rule.”
