SEVEN POINTS–The City of Seven Points Police Department held its first annual car and bike show Aug. 17 at the City Park. Proceeds from the show will go toward purchasing vests for police officers and to Henderson County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Daniel Van Huss’s family.
According to Chief Raymond Wennerstrom police vests have a shelf life of three to five years, due to wear and tear, Texas heat and hazards of the job. Wennerstrom commented that they have vests as old as nine years. Each vest cost $1,300. and the department needs ten.
Between the entry fees and donations, all the funds for the vests were met. The police department also had a dunking booth. All the funds from the dunking booth, $614, went to the family of Van Huss, who tragically died in July.
Wennerstrom stated, “I wanted to do something to bring the community together, help out the city that has a small budget and benefit the police department.” Wennerstrom also said, “Amber Edwards of T-Mobile in Kaufman and Integrity Services of Texas HVAC, Seven Points Council Members Valeri Bahm and Mary Wennerstrom along with Bob Patterson went over and beyond to make sure the benefit was a success.”
The car and bike show took in a total of $16,250 which will take care of the ten vests needed for the police department. Wennerstrom said that this will be an annual event, and proceeds will benefit the citizens of Seven Points.
Wennerstrom made the following statement, “The Seven Points Police Department is extremely thankful to all the sponsors and people who came out to support the event and cause.”
The following sponsors adopted one or two officers for vests Valerie Bahm, Sharon Evans, Iron Cotton, VFW Post 4376 and Auxiliary, Integrity Services of Texas and T-Mobile, Buy-Lo Auto Supply and Freddy, Stacy Yakesh and Cedar Creek Elder Dodge General Manager Forrest Elder.
