KEMP–Kemp ISD has hired James Colbath to serve as Kemp High School principal for the 2026–27 school year, the district announced June 22.
According to that announcement, Colbath brings a wealth of experience in education and leadership, having served as a math teacher and coach, as an at-risk coordinator, as an assistant principal and as an associate principal during his 13-year career. His experience includes leadership roles in Mesquite ISD, Waxahachie High School, and most recently, at Crandall High School.
Colbath shared, “As the principal of Kemp High School, what I am looking forward to most this school year is building strong relationships with our students, staff and families while creating an environment where every student can thrive. I am excited to celebrate the successes of our students—whether that is in the classroom, on the athletic field, in fine arts or through extracurricular activities.”
The school district said Colbath is also eager to continue strengthening the Kemp ISD's culture of G.R.I.T.—Growth, Respect, Integrity, and Tenacity which is a core —while supporting students as they grow academically, socially, and personally throughout their high school journey.
The school district said over the coming months, Mr. Colbath will begin connecting with students, staff, and families as he prepares for an exciting year at Kemp High School.
