MABANK–Mabank ISD Board members approved a weatherproofing project with the added benefit of a facelift for the junior high school at the May 22 meeting.
NextGen Construction has now been hired by the district to complete the project which includes cleaning out, refilling, caulking and resealing all of the building expansion joints and windows, as well as pressure washing the building with an herbicide to mitigate algae growth on the exterior of the building and repairing any loose or damaged mortar with a urethane sealant.
The exterior brickwork will then be sealed with Seal-A-Pore, and Tuff-Coat, a tinted sealant, will be applied to the stucco, revamping the look of the building. The Tuff-Coat will be tinted the Cadet Gray color to match and complement the existing brick and trim work. The project is budgeted not to exceed $165,000 and includes a five-year contractor’s labor warranty and a ten-year manufacturer warranty.
Mabank ISD Superintendent Brad Koskelin says he believes this project will improve curb appeal while also having the practical use of weatherproofing.
Following an executive session, Koskelin announced he would be resigning as superintendent efective June 30. He will be taking a new position in Ennis ISD. Former Superintendent Dr. Russell Marshall was named Interim Supeintendent and will guide the district in the search for Koskelin’s replacement. Marshall left the district in 2018 after 16 years as Mabank ISD’s superintendent.
