CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The Declaration of Independence was signed  Aug. 2, 1776, creating our nation. The need for a government resulted in the Articles of Confederation but that proved insufficient to run a country. It was determined that action needed to be taken and the Constitutional Convention took place from May to September 1787 in Philadelphia. The U.S. Constitution was signed Sept. 17, 1787. The year 2022 represents the 235th anniversary of the Constitution, which remains the world’s oldest written national constitution still in use.
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually for the observance of Constitution Week. President Eisenhower signed this resolution into Public Law  No. 915 Aug. 2, 1956.
The U.S. Constitution has stood the test of time and the members of Sarah Maples Chapter, NSDAR are honored to be a part of the observance of this brilliant document. Area mayors signed Proclamations of Constitution Week Sep 17-23.
