One deceased in Cherokee Shores fire

An early morning structure fire in the Cherokee Shores area of Cedar Creek Lake claims one life.
CEDAR CREEK LAKE—Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) along with multiple other agencies responded to fatal structure fire Aug. 26 at 6:53 a.m.
According to PSFR, volunteers were alerted to a structure fire in the Cherokee Shores area where a large smoke column was visible when responding.
Units arrived and attempted an interior fire attack and search but initially had to back out due to high heat conditions. There was also a live power line arcing in the front yard on arrival.
According to the department, three residents were able to escape prior to PSFR’s arrival. One resident and some pets were not able to escape. “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” the department stated on social media.
PSFR was assisted on scene by Gun Barrel City Fire, Eustace Fire, Caney City Fire, Log Cabin Fire, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County Fire Marshal’s Office, UT Health EMS and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Henderson County Fire Marshal’s Office.
