Mabank Police respond to local shooting

MABANK–Mabank Police Officers responded to a reported shooting July 13 in the 1400 block of Pharm Hills Road in the city. When officers arrived, they found a adult male with an apparent gunshot wound to the head inside the residence according to a release from Mabank Police Department posted on social media.
Officers immediately attempted life saving measures according to the report. The victim was transported to UT Health in Gun Barrel City where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. He was identified as Peter Parker, 24, from Canton.

Weekend accidents claim lives of locals

HENDERSON/VAN ZANDT COUNTIES–Two tragic weekend accidents have claimed the lives of a local teen and a law enforcement officer.
According to DPS preliminary reports, around 2:30 a.m. June 11, Haylie Grimes, 17, of Gun Barrel City was on the shoulder of FM 317 approximately 3.5 miles from Athens speaking to the driver of a vehicle stopped partially in the westbound lane. Samuel Bautista, 19, of Athens went around the parked vehicle in a no-passing zone and came to a stop in the eastbound lane to pick up Grimes. 

Gun Barrel Police respond to major collision

GUN BARREL CITY–Gun Barrel City Police Department responded to a 911 call July 27 of a major traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. 
The collision occurred in the south Gun Barrel Lane area near Stillwater Street. Gun Barrel City Police Officers Stephens and Taylor responded to the scene and located a deceased juvenile male. Officers from Mabank Police Department Boner and Otterline also responded to the call to aid in the investigation.
