Payne Springs Fire Rescue extiguishes a fully involved structure fire early Sunday morning, saving the fire from spreading to neighboring structures.

PAYNE SPRINGS–Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) responded to an early morning fire Nov. 26. The call came in at 5:18 a.m. according to reports on the department’s social media.
What was an unknown fire turned out to be a structure fire, fully engulfed on Running Bear in Cherokee Shores. Engine 1 arrived to find the structure a total loss, but prevented spread to a new home on the back side of the fire. The fire had been burning for some time before being reported.
According to reports, crews made a quick knock down. PSFR was assisted by Gun Barrel City Fire and Eustace Fire. PSFR Fire Chief Adam Robinson told The Monitor that the structure was vacant and unoccupied and no injuries had occurred as a result of the blaze.
In a later report, PSFR responded Nov. 27 to a fire caused by a space heater. They reported the residents were home at the time and were able to extinguish the fire with flour and turn off power.
PSFR cautions residents not to use power strips or extension cords in conjunction with space heaters. Power strips do not support the current flow needed for space heaters. Cheap extension cords also will not support the current flow. Once the current flow exceeds the design limit of the power strip, everything heats up which could lead to a fire.
PSFR further cautions to only use space heater when absolutely necessary, to plug them directly into wall outlets and to follow all manufacturer’s instructions and warnings when using them.
