SEVEN POINTS–Seven Points City Council met Sept. 14 and appointed Valerie Bahm-Logsdon to the city council to fill the unexpired term of her late husband Councilman Kelly Logsdon. Logsdon’s seat was made vacant when the councilman perished in a vehicular accident. Valerie was sworn in and will fill the remainder of his term of May 2024.
Public comments were made concerning billboards along State Highway (SH) 274. Carl Schiltz with Texas Premier Golf Carts wants to put up a professional quality billboard that will have advertisements for his golf cart business plus space for two other advertisements. The signs are eight feet by 24 feet signs and will be on SH 274.  The city has an ordinance to limit billboards due to overuse. Mayor Skippy Waters response was, “Most the council members here feel that the city is just getting junked up with a bunch of billboards and we do not want to be that city that where every time every plot you go there is a billboard... So, with that being said, yes we did vote on an ordinance that we are not accepting any more.” Code Enforcement Officer Thomas Lauer interjected, “The idea of billboards is that it is an off-premises sign. You hit a key here, two of those are to be advertising of your property, if the sign is on the property of being advertised, it is an exception and you can have a sign. However, I think your sign is going to be too big. We are going to have to check the sign limits and see what size on premise sign limits can be and how far off the ground.” Waters concluded the comments by asking Schiltz and Lauer to meet and work out all the questions pertaining to the billboards.
Founder of Cedar Creek Brewery Jim Elliott approached the council about upcoming events and parking. Cedar Creek Brewery will be hosting a fundraiser for Lee’s Flags Sept. 30. Proceeds of the fundraiser will be for the rebuilding and loss that occurred when Lee’s Flags trailer burned. The fundraiser will consist of a car show, corn hole contest and activities for children.  Elliott indicated additional parking will be needed and asked if the use of the library parking lot will be permitted. The council gave unanimous approval and thanked Elliott for all he does for the community.
In other business, the council:
• Approved Invictus properties to subdivide the property at 1021 County Road 2105 into 15 residential properties.
• Approved pay increase to Officer Williams’ pay.
• Approved REZ sports to use ballpark.
