CEDAR CREEK LAKE—In the wake of Hurricane Helene area citizens banded together collecting donations for North Carolina residents. The donations were coordinated with the Cajun Navy for distribution.
James Hunt, Dakota Nelson, Bruce Schwanbeck, Jason Reasoner, among others filled their trucks and trailers with donations made by Cedar Creek Lake residents, and businesses Oct. 8. Donations of dog food, water, clothing, blankets, coats, diapers, sanitizer, dry goods, gas containers, sleeping bags and so much more were dropped off in the Brookshires parking lot in Mabank.
Cars lined the parking lot giving the groups anything that they thought North Carolina residents could use. Venmo, Cash and a Go Fund Me account was also shared on social media to assist with the cost of gas, and to purchase items closer to the destination for North Carolina residents.
Donations were coordinated with the Cajun Navy and delivered to a warehouse obtained for Hurricane Helene victims.
