ATHENS–A woman was struck and killed in the early daylight hours of Feb. 15 by what the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) says is a hit-and-run driver that law enforcement division states fled westward toward Eustace.
DPS says the woman was walking in the 4200 block of FM 2709 near its intersection with State Highway 19 and died from injuries sustained at the scene, where DPS states in its news release that evidence was found indicating the driver was in a dark gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup in the year model range of 2016-2018, according to Corsicana-based DPS Safety Education/Public Relations & Information Sgt. Chris Williamson.
The pickup will be damaged on the driver’s side and/or its front end, including missing its forward-facing Chevrolet emblem, the DPS sergeant said. DPS asks anyone with information about the identity of the driver and vehicle to contact the Highway Patrol at (903) 872-5633 and then select option 2. This is an ongoing investigation, DPS said Feb. 16, stating that no further information is available beyond the details the department had already provided. Law enforcement officials did not provide further updates as of this issue’s press time.
