Capital murder fugitive captured by KCSO
KAUFMAN COUNTY–Capital murder fugitive Trevor McEuen was taken into custody following the execution of a coordinated search warrant by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), in collaboration with multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, in the early morning hours of Monday, June 2.
McEuen’s trial date was set for May 5, but he failed to appear for his jury trial at the Kaufman County Justice Center and has been a fugitive since. Information received is that McEuen removed his leg monitor in the early morning hours, violating bond conditions put in place by the 422nd District Court.
The 33-year-old McEuen was accused of shooting and killing his Forney neighbor Aaron Martinez in May of 2023 and indicted Nov. 3, 2023. McEuen’s defense team wanted his “excessive” bond reduced. McEuen was eventually released on $1 million bond Sept. 6, 2024.
McEuen violated his bond by posting pictures of the victim and his uncle and nephew to his Instagram account on Sept. 11. Conditions of McEuen’s bond release included not making any contact with the victim’s family through social media. Due to the Instagram posts, he was arrested at about 2 p.m., Sept. 13. Documents also say McEuen also threatened to shoot the uncle.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to McEuen’s arrest. Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and Kaufman County Crime Stoppers were each also offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, bringing the total reward to $30,000.
After weeks of investigative work, including surveillance and inter-agency intelligence sharing, law enforcement officials narrowed down McEuen’s location according to a press release from KCSO. In the early morning, a tactical unit executed a search warrant at a property in Van Zandt County. McEuen was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.
He was immediately transported to the Kaufman County Jail, where he is being held on multiple serious charges, including capital murder, five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and arson.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Public Safety (Aviation), Texas Department of Corrections (K-9), Texas Parks & Wildlife, US Marshal’s Office (Eastern Division and Northern Division, US Customs and Border Patrol AMO, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Forney Police Department and Kaufman County Constable’s Office Pct. 1.
Authorities are investigating whether any individuals may have knowingly assisted McEuen during his time as a fugitive.
“This arrest is the result of relentless and coordinated efforts by law enforcement personnel who worked around the clock to ensure that this dangerous individual was brought back into custody,” Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers said in a statement. “The safety of our community was at stake and we are proud of the partnership and professionalism displayed by every agency involved.”
