City of Kemp welcomes new police chief

City of Kemp’s Myranda Gilmore (from left) welcomes new Chief of Police Curtis Kaloi. Kaloi’s new position for the city became effective May 27.
KEMP–The City of Kemp is pleased to announce the appointment of Curtis Kaloi as its new Chief of Police. This appointment was effective May 27, 2025. Chief Kaloi will succeed Chief Ernie Zepeda, who left to go to another agency. With over 36 years of dedicated experience in law enforcement, Chief Kaloi brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position. The Chief brings a proven track record of training, community policing, crime reduction strategies, and the ability to effectively network with other law enforcement agencies. Chief Kaloi retired from the City of Irving after 28 years of service, following 4 years with Red Oak ISD Police and 5 years as Chief at Frost ISD Police Department.
"I am deeply honored to be appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Kemp," said Chief Kaloi. "I like to lead by example with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. I am committed to furthering the training the officers here already have and, most importantly, building trust, ensuring public safety, and fostering community partnerships.”
Chief Kaloi holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master Peace Officer certification from Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is a training officer and has trained over 30 recruits in Irving and Red Oak. Chief Kaloi is most proud of his accomplishment while in Irving, starting the Police Athletic League. This program trained youths to box and sent several to the Olympic Training center in Colorado.
