GUN BARREL CITY—The Gun Barrel City Council met June 24 and heard updates from YNS Development Services Chief Executive Officer Steven Haynes. Haynes explained to the council and the audience that they would begin bringing in many loads of select fill to address the sandy soil and estimated that the grating would be complete by the end of July. Haynes also explained that they would soon begin a storm drain system and that Oncor has removed unnecessary poles and added new where applicable. Utilities would be installed soon. Haynes also shared renderings of the Hilton Tapestry Hotel. The design displays murals, large windows to capitalize on the view of Cedar Creek Lake and several gathering areas for relaxation, meetings, banquets or events.
City Manager Dr. Angela Smith also addressed the $500,000 reimbursement grant which was approved by the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Aug. 6, 2021 and approved by the acting council Aug. 20, 2021. At the time, the EDC took a loan out and paid for some things associated with the Pier 334 project such as surveys, appraisals, geotech studies, engineering and attorney reviews. Smith explained to the council that some items were reimbursements and some were directly paid to the appropriate vendor, but that all invoices were accounted for. Smith stated that this “wraps up” the EDC’s cash commitment to the project. This $500,000 plus the amount of money the EDC has spent on the property, satisfies the expected interest of 16.7% in the partnership with Pier 334. No money was overspent as originally suggested or rumored.
In other business, the council:
• Approved consent agenda.
• Approved an emergency expenditure for the replacement of inoperable audio and video equipment in the council chambers from the Capital Improvement Fund for an amount not to exceed $25,000.
• Approved the adoption of Resolution No. R-2025-002 approving a performance agreement by and between the Gun Barrel Economic Development Corporation and Gray Ghosts, Inc.
