MABANK‑The Mabank Board of Trustees met Aug. 25. Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction Charity Groom shared the Mabank Independent School District A-F ratings and assessment results.
Groom began with, “I am excited to share with you our rating and test results. We have some really big news to share with you. I hope you are as excited as we have been, we are the highest-rated school district in Kaufman County. All of our teachers and everybody involved worked really hard to get us to where we are.” Groom continued, “We were 21st out of 77 districts in region 10. Within that, the 10 districts that rated an A, their average economically disadvantage rate was 16.46% compared to our almost 70%. And then, districts that scored above 85%, which is where we were, there were 11 of those of which their average economically disadvantaged rate was 37.77%.”
Campuses are rated by three categories, achievement, progress, closing the gaps and overall. Groom said, “We had two A campuses in the district this year, the high school and Central Elementary. Congratulations to them and their accomplishments, which is not easy to do. Lakeview also had two A ratings in achievement and progress.”
Groom continued, “The other thing that was really amazing is we had 100% of our students meet college, career and military readiness (CCMR). And that is not easy to do, it takes a lot of tracking to make sure our students are receiving credit for CCMR, that is lag data so for the year 2023-24, 100% of our kids met CCMR.”
Four campuses in MISD received distinction designations. According to Groom Central Elementary, Lakeview Elementary, Mabank Junior High and Mabank High School earned distinctions.
In other business, the board:
• Approved the Junior High Addition and Renovations Project, which should be completed the summer of 2026.
• Approved to lease and install temporary portable classrooms and the Junior High campus not to exceed $100,000.
• Approved of the resolution to approve the conveyance of a perpetual street easement to the City of Mabank for public right of way purposes.
• Approved the 2025-26 school year budget.
• Approved of the resolution to adopt and levy tax rate for the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved the 2025-26 MISD District Improvement Plan.
