MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers hosted the Kemp Lady ‘Jackets for a District 15-4A softball rivalry March 24.
After hitting a leadoff double and advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Katie Neighbors gave Kemp the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brooklynn Harrod scored Emma McAda on her RBI single to make it 2-0 in favor of Kemp.
In the bottom of the first, JoJo Marker had a leadoff double and scored on Emmy Barnes’ RBI double as Mabank trailed 2-1. It was tied at 2-2 after Erin Ottmo’s RBI triple, then the Lady Panthers led 3-2 after Ottmo scored on a sacrifice fly from Savannah Phillips.
Marker’s two-run RBI triple scored Maysun Williams and Schylur Martin to extend Mabank’s lead to 5-2 in the bottom half of the second. Barnes had an RBI double and then scored on an Ottmo sacrifice RBI to increase the Mabank lead to 7-2.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Panthers led 13-2 courtesy of a two-run RBI single from Barnes, a two-run RBI double from Phillips, an RBI double from Trinity Mixon and an RBI single from Mackenzie Juarez. Mabank added three more runs and led 16-2 heading into the fourth inning. That would be the final score as Mabank defeated Kemp in a run-rule victory.
