KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets began their quadrennial Homecoming festivities Friday, Oct. 2, as the varsity football team played host to the Founders Classical Eagles from the Far North Dallas area that evening, winning their fourth-straight game.
After a solid kickoff return by Zaki Brown, Kemp began their opening possession at the Eagles’ 38-yard line. Two plays after Hayden Olivarez rushed to the 16, he picked up a rushing touchdown and it was 8-0 Yellowjackets after Brown’s 2-point conversion.
Benito Robles of Kemp intercepted Founders Classical quarterback Manny Pachikara for a pick-six and Kemp led 14-0 after the Yellowjackets’ 2-point attempt failed.
On the next Eagle drive, FC’s Pachikara picked up a 20-yard run to Kemp’s 30-yard line, but the Yellowjacket defense stopped the FC QB and his team cold when he was eventually sacked on a fourth down for a turnover on downs with 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, with the Yellowjackets facing a fourth down at the Eagles’ 11, Brown converted it for a 1st-and-goal. He would then hit paydirt with a rushing touchdown and Kemp extended their lead to 20-0 with 7:36 left until halftime, following Eli Castillo’s extra-point kick attempt was no good.
Riley Roberson recorded his own pick-six with 4:14 to go in the second quarter, and it was 27-0 going into halftime after the Kemp extra point was good.
In the fourth quarter, Roberson punched in a 1-yard rushing touchdown and Kemp led 33-0 with 9:17 left in the game. The Eagles scored a touchdown with 5:37 remaining in the contest and trailed 33-7. The Yellowjackets went on to defeat Founders Classical by the score of 39-7. Next, Kemp travels back to Dallas for the third time this season for a Friday, Oct. 9 contest at 7 p.m. versus Uplift Hampton Prep.
