A community united in grief

MABANK‑The following press release was issued by the Mabank Police Department.
On Saturday, June 27 at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Mabank Police Department and Mabank Fire and Rescue were conducting traffic control operations following the conclusion of a local event. The operation was taking place in the 700 block of West Mason Street (US Business Highway 175).
During these operations, Charlie Woodard, who served as the Mabank Fire Marshal, was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on the West Mason Street.
Woodard received immediate medical attention at the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to UT Health in Gun Barrel City. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Woodard succumbed to his injuries a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was requested to respond to the scene and is actively investigating the crash to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. No additional information is being released at this time while the investigation remains ongoing.
The Mabank Police Department would like to send our deepest condolences to Charlie’s family, friends and first responders. Charlie’s service and dedication to the citizens of Mabank will not be forgotten.
We ask that you please keep Charlie’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. The family also respectfully requests privacy as they grieve their loss.

The Mabank community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Fire Chief Charlie Woodard, who gave his life in the line of duty while directing traffic following the Mabank Rodeo. Chief Woodard was more than a firefighter, he was a devoted public servant, respected leader, and trusted friend whose commitment to protecting others never wavered.
His selfless service, unwavering dedication, and compassionate spirit touched countless lives throughout the community. As family, friends, fellow first responders, and residents grieve this tremendous loss, Mabank remembers a man who faithfully answered the call to serve until his very last moments.
His legacy of courage, sacrifice, and service will never be forgotten. Please keep Chief Woodard’s family, the Mabank Fire Department, and our entire community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
