LOG CABIN-The following information about a July 17 incident was provided to The Monitor by Log Cabin Police Department Assistant Chief Amy Meyers, who also serves as the city’s public information officer.
Officers responded to assist another law enforcement agency following a report of shots fired at an occupied residence.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds from a high-powered rifle toward the occupied home before fleeing the area on a four-wheeler.
While officers were securing the scene and conducting the initial investigation, the suspect returned to the location on the same four-wheeler and drove through the active crime scene in an erratic manner. The suspect's actions created an immediate safety risk to responding officers.
During the encounter, one officer discharged their service weapon one time toward the suspect after perceiving an imminent threat to their safety. The round did not strike the suspect or any other person or property.
The suspect continued from the scene but was later located and taken into custody without further incident.
