KEMP–Kemp Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach BJ Rider was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
According to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office website, Rider was arrested by Kemp ISD Police and booked into the Kaufman County Detention Center at 8:20 p.m.
The website shows Rider charged with stalking and official oppression.
Stalking is a third-degree felony, and official oppression is considered a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law. Official oppression is a criminal offense committed when a public servant acting under the color of their office or employment intentionally abuses their authority, according to the Texas Penal Code.
When reached for comment, Kemp ISD stated, “The Kemp ISD employee in question is on administrative leave.” Also, the school district said Coach Jonathan Sullivan has been appointed acting Kemp High School varsity head football coach and acting athletic director for Kemp ISD, effective Wednesday, Sept. 23.
